  7. A HORLEY man has photographed something out of this world to add to the
  8. burgeoning Horley Mirror X files.
  9.  
  10. But it is uncertain if John Henderson's picture is a UFO or a nearby planet.
  11.  
  12. Skygazer John took his snap when he spotted an unusual light in the western sky
  13. from his Balcombe Road home one evening.
  14.  
  15. "I thought it was too bright to be a star." said the 31-year-old flight
  16. attendant. "I watched it for about an hour as it moved across the sky and down
  17. over the horizon. Around the top left was an orange disc and at the bottom it
  18. was deep blue.

  20. "Working in the aviation industry, I can definately say that it's not an
  21. aircraft or anything I've ever seen from an aircraft cockpit." John suspected
  22. that the UFO could be the rogue Chinese satellite which is expected to re-enter
  23. earths atmosphere, or perhaps a passing comet.

  25. But Dr Jacqueline Milton of the Royal Astronomical Society said that a more
  26. likely candidate is Venus, currently shining brightly in the western evening
  27. skies.

  29. "I strongly suspect that the sighting was of Venus at a low altitude," she
  30. said.

  32. "The orange and blue colouring could occur because the atmosphere can act like
  33. a prism distorting colours and causing it to twinkle and flash.

  35. "If people don't look at the sky a lot they are sometimes at a loss to relate
  36. to unusual sightings."

  38. UFO sightings have come flooding into the Horley Mirror since a spate of
  39. unexplained objects were spotted over Gatwick.

  42. tint on the bottom side and a blue tint on the top. Beside the streak there is
  43. what appears to be a stationary star.]
